What is a "Webinar?" and Where is it held?
A Webinar is technology that enables large groups of people across the country to have a "virtual presence" at a meeting or conference. Attendees can watch the slides and hear the presenters in live time. At the end of the Webinar, participants can "raise their hands" and ask questions via the Chat Box. All of this from the convenience of your office, a meeting room or anywhere you have access to a computer, the Internet and a phone.
Webinar Highlights:
The speakers will address two hot topics with ARRA/HITECH compliance. Ms. Boerner will review the new BAA provisions as well as strategies for implementation. She will also provide an overview of the updated BAA documents created by HIPAA COW. Ms. Davis will provide a brief background on the breach notification requirements and then discuss practical implementation strategies as well as lessons learned. In addition, Ms. Davis will provide an overview of the available HIPAA COW resources for breach notification.

Nancy Davis, MS, RHIA, Director of Privacy/Security Officer, Ministry Health Care:
Nancy Davis, MS, RHIA has worked in a variety of health care settings, most recently in the management of the privacy and security of patient health information as the Director of Privacy for Wisconsin-based Ministry Health Care. She has leadership experience in health information management, quality assessment, risk management, Joint Commission, and safety. She has experience in both large and small health care delivery settings, including hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. She has spoken for a variety of healthcare professional groups and written several articles on topics that fall into her field of experience.
Nancy was actively involved with AHIMA’s Privacy and Security Council for several years and this year serves as AHIMA’s Chairperson for the Professional Ethics Committee. Last year Nancy contributed as a writer to an AHIMA book on “Medical Identity Theft.” She is the Co-Chair of the Privacy Networking Group for the HIPAA Collaborative of Wisconsin (HIPAA COW) and most recently involved in a project to develop a sample policy on Breach Notification.
Cathy Boerner, JD, CHC, President, Boerner Consulting, LLC:
Cathy Boerner, JD, CHC has been supporting Compliance Officers, Privacy Officers and Security Officers over her 13 year consulting career. She specializes in development, review, revisions, training, and auditing and monitoring of compliance programs including acting as interim compliance officer and privacy officer roles. She is the past-President of HIPAA COW (2005-2007) and she still serves on the Board. She recently was elected to the National Health Care Compliance Association Board of Directors for a three year term. In 2005 and again in 2007, Ms. Boerner helped revised the Hospital Payment Monitoring Program (HPMP) Compliance Workbook for the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) community and 4000+ acute-care PPS hospitals. In additional to working with hospitals and nursing homes, she has also worked with large health plans on reviewing and revising their compliance programs including assessing their compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security. Ms. Boerner is a frequent national speaker and she contributes bi-monthly articles to the Journal of Health Care Compliance (JHCC) and serves on the editorial board for the publication
